Drug Addiction Treatment
Drug Addiction Treatment
Numerous stages compose the journey into and through drug or narcotic addiction treatment, most notably the first stage of admitting that you have a problem and need to take significant action to heal.
This may sound a little obvious and perhaps even a cliche, but it is the only place to begin, as it permits the individual to begin looking for their solutions when it comes to drug addiction treatment. What surprises everyone else the most, is the obvious denial they can see in their loved ones, and just how significant their drug use is negatively affecting their quality of life. So, the second stage after admitting to yourself that there is a problem is finding the desire to change – to recover with a dedicated drug addiction treatment.

What Is Drug Addiction?
Drug addiction is a chronic disease characterized by compulsive, or uncontrollable, drug seeking and use despite harmful consequences and changes in the brain, which can be long-lasting. These changes in the brain can lead to harmful behaviours seen in people who use drugs. Drug addiction is also a relapsing disease. Relapse is the return to drug use after an attempt to stop.
The path to drug addiction begins with the voluntary act of taking drugs. But over time, a person’s ability to choose not to do so becomes compromised. Seeking and taking the drug becomes compulsive. This is mostly due to the effects of long-term drug exposure on brain function. Addiction affects parts of the brain involved in reward and motivation, learning and memory, and control over behaviour.
Addiction is a disease that affects both the brain and behaviour.

What Drugs Lead To Addiction?
While these drugs are very different from each other, they all strongly activate the addiction centre of the brain. That is what makes these substances habit-forming, while others are not when we refer to drug addiction treatment.
- Alcohol
- Club drugs, like GHB, ketamine, MDMA (ecstasy/molly), flunitrazepam (Rohypnol®)

What Are Symptoms Of Substance Abuse Disorder?
